The Passat has been discontinued in the US, but VW is developing a new version for the European market code-named B9.Recently, foreign media photographed the upcoming use of passat Alltrack body test car.The test car was matched to the current Passat body in an attempt to hide more information. The extension between the side doors suggests the new generation will have a longer wheelbase, while sources suggest it will also be slightly wider to provide more passenger and baggage space. The next-generation Passat will share its base with the next-generation Skoda Speedway, rumoured to be available only as a station wagon – regular and Alltrack versions – with the possibility of a hatchback being added at a later stage. That means the traditional four-door sedan body style is likely to die out with this generation.Volkswagen Group’s upcoming station wagon models will use an updated version of the current MQB platform as the last of its kind to use ICE power before moving to an all-electric powertrain. The engine range will include both TSI and TDI, with light hybrid technology to reduce emissions, while high-end models will have a plug-in hybrid powertrain, according to the report. The current Passat was launched in 2014 and was revamped in 2019, making 2023 a good time to launch a new generation. Both the ninth generation Volkswagen Passat and the fourth generation Skoda Speedster will be built in Bratislava, Slovakia.
